May 23, 2018 — The jury for Robbin’s murder trial brought in five guilty verdicts for the five young women Andrew Urdiales murdered in California.
June 13, 2018 — Today — The jury brought in five death sentences.
Final sentencing will be August 31, 2018
32 1/2 years since Robbin’s murder. During the years, many times I thought justice abandoned me. I will finally believe it when I hear the judge sentence Urdiales to five consecutive death sentences. He won’t be put to death is California, the death sentence in this state is a fiction, however, it is still legal and he will never be released from prison. The rest of his life on Death Row, a miserable, truly lonely existence.
What do California voters think of the death penalty?
2012 – A ballot proposition #34 to end death penalty was defeated by 54% of voters
2016 – Two separate and opposing ballot propositions: the proposition with highest vote total wins
Prop #66 – To keep the death sentence and enact changes to speed up the execution process won with 6,626,159 affirmative votes.
Prop #62 – To end the death sentence lost with 6,361,788 affirmative votes.
Prop 66 was upheld by the California Supreme Court in 2017 after being challenged by the pro-criminal lobbies and politicians.
Regardless, execution in California is (pardon the pun) a dead issue.
